W Osaka is Tadao Ando's take on a lifestyle hotel — a faceted glass tower on Midosuji Boulevard that catches light like a piece of quartz. Inside, the lobby opens into a double-height space where Ando's concrete meets W's usual maximalism, and the tension works surprisingly well. Rooms face either the tree-lined boulevard or the Osaka cityscape, with interiors that reference Osaka's street culture — neon, texture, and pattern — filtered through a more restrained lens than typical W hotels. The rooftop WET Bar has one of the best city views in Osaka. For Scandinavian travellers, Osaka is the counterpoint to Kyoto: louder, funnier, more chaotic. W Osaka provides a sleek base to explore the street food and nightlife of Dotonbori and Shinsekai, all within walking distance.
